Anambra Governorship Election: Obiano Asks Candidates To Maintain Issue – Based Campaigns

Governor Willie Obiano has charged candidates for the November sixth governorship election and their supporters to base their campaign on issues.

Governor Obiano who gave the charge during the 2021 summit of Masters of Ceremony in Awka with the theme, “The MC and Issue-Based Election Campaigns in Nigeria”, said the progress recorded by the State can only be sustained if politicians desist from comments that will heat up the polity.

Correspondent, David Okpokwasili reports that Governor Obiano represented by the Head of Service, Mr Harry Uduh commended the Masters of Ceremony for the thought of hosting the summit and for focusing on promoting issue-based campaigns and stated emphatically that this is the only way that peaceful, transparent and rancour free campaign and election can be guaranteed.

Explaining the motive behind the summit, the Convener, Chief Chido Obidiegwu said it will also provide a platform to standardize the profession and also serve as a mentoring ground for budding public speakers as the MCs plan to set up the Ikenna Ndaguba Academy for Public Speaking in Anambra State.

Delivering the keynote address, the first female Professor of Mass Communication in Sub-Saharan Africa, Mrs Chinyere Okunna said that in a fledgling democracy like Nigeria’s, Masters of Ceremony are central towards ensuring issue based campaigns that are rancour free while she also asked politicians to support the industry by ensuring that MCs are allowed to be professionals without interfering in their jobs.

The event chaired by a former Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, Chief Tony Onyima was also attended by the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr Uche Nworah among others.

The Summit, held in honour of the legendary broadcaster and public speaker, the late Mr Ikenna Ndaguba, was a platform for the Masters of Ceremony to compare notes, promote professionalism in their craft and especially as the campaigns for the November sixth gubernatorial election heat up, take their place as image makers of events.

Some of the masters of Ceremony who have distinguished themselves in their craft were honoured with awards of excellence at the event.
